Joe Ringhofer - Music Appreciation and History, RCM Chief Examiner Emeritus for Theoretical Subjects
Joe J. Ringhofer holds an ARCT from The Royal Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto. A former Canadian champion of the "Classical" accordion, he was for many years a faculty member of The Royal Conservatory of Music. He has been an examiner since 1976. Mr. Ringhofer has authored and co-authored 18 books on music history, rudiments and musicianship. Mr. Ringhofer is the Director of the Phoenix Conservatory of Music and its principal teacher/lecturer. In September 2002 Mr. Ringhofer serves as the Chief Examiner, Theoretical Subjects for RCM Examinations.
Thomas Green - Piano Pedagogy
Thomas Green holds a Bachelor of Music from McGill University, a Masters degree in performance from the Université de Montreal, and a PhD in music history from Brandeis University. His piano teachers included Clifford Poole, Lucille Brassard and Yvonne Hubert. He also received a Diplôme d’accompagnement from the École Vincent d’Indy in Montreal following studies with John Newmark. Dr. Green has taught music history at McGill University, the University of Toronto, and the University of Windsor. For several years he served as senior editor at The Frederick Harris Music Co., Limited. He has also adjudicated at music festivals across Ontario and has presented RCM Examinations workshops across Canada. Currently he maintains a large class of piano students and teaches music history and harmony at the Academie Ste. Cecile and at his private studio in Windsor. As a personal coach with certification from the Adler School of Professional Coaching in Toronto, he also works with artistic individuals who are seeking renewed creative energy or new career directions.
Alexandra Townsend - Piano Pedagogy
Dr. Alexandra Townsend holds a Bachelor of Music from McGill University, a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory, Boston, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of British Columbia. Her principal teachers include internationally-known pianists such as Patricia Zander (NEC), Robert Silverman and Jane Coop (UBC), as well as Christopher Elton with whom she studied privately for a year at the Royal Academy of Music whilst living in London, England.
Mariko Sato - Piano (Taubman Technique, Performance injury prevention)
A native of Tokyo, Mariko Sato began her piano studies with Prof. Joko Gondo at University of Toho in Tokyo. Ms Sato obtained a Master degree at the Université Laval in Québec studying under Bruno Biot. She then continued to develop her pianistic artistry in Banff with Kendall Taylor, Marek Jablonsky, Robin Wood and Gyorgy Sebok, and in New York with Seymour Berstein and Arminda Canteros. Ms. Sato pursued chamber music training with Lorand Fenyves, Paul Pakanowitzky, Itzhak Perlman and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi. Ms Sato studied at the Taubman Institute of Piano in New York under the direction of Mary Moran and Edna Golandsky. She also received training in Feldenkrais Technique from Phillip Leblond.
