Introduction to Digital Photography for Kids

Course schedule: Fridays 5:00 to 6:00  p.m. (for teens)

Course schedule: Fridays 6:00 to 7:00  p.m. (for kids) 

Course begins on 22nd January 2010 (Friday)

Total of 8 classes 

Instructor:  Dr. Angela Chan

This program is intended for children to have fun while learning the basics of digital photography. Students will acquire the basics of photography as they develop a sense of visual sensitivity through the camera lens. Through a hands on approach, students learn to operate their cameras effectively. They are also introduce to basic photography skills, basic terminology, composition and framing, color schemes, aperture and shutter speed, as well as basics of photo editing. At the end of the course, students will present their work in a photography exhibition at Lambda.   

Students need to bring along their own cameras for this course. Compact digital cameras can be used for purposes of this course, however SLR digital cameras are generally preferred. 

$200 (plus taxes) per student for a course of 8 classes

Introduction to Photography I  

Course schedule: Thursdays 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Introduction to Photography I, is a learning experience for individuals interested in learning basic D-SLR photography (Canon-Nikon type cameras) in a workshop environment.

Not simply a class on how to produce a recordable image with a camera, but a course that additionally introduces and explores the topic of image composition.

Introduction to Photography I, is a 7 week course of photographic theory & practical 'hands-on' workshops. The course focuses on in-class shoot & Learn exercises that help simplify the technical theory behind true photography.

The photography textbook used for the course includes additional photography subjects to help continue your personal development even after the course is completed.

At any time during the course, you will be able to e-mail your works for professorial critique or to simply ask a photography related questions outside of the classroom.

- Introduction to the World of Photography
- Basic Camera Operation: Shutter, Aperture, Exposure, Depth of Field Workshops
- Basic Composition - Discussion & Workshop
- Understanding Light - Theory & Workshop
- Final Assignment Reviews

Please note: All applicants (including those who are brand new to photography) must posses the aptitude and desire for exploring photography as a science and as a form of expression.
This course requires all students to have access to a Digital Camera which the user can manually manipulate shutter speed, aperture (F Stop) and ISO settings (D-SLR is preferred). Please contact us if you require confirmation for any particular brand or model.

Course subject headings are not listed sequentially. Order of subjects will will be based on the character of each individual class. Program consists of 7 x 90 minute classes during a 7 week period. All course dates are subject to change with advance notice and confirmation.

Introduction to Photography II

Introduction to Photography II, is a learning experience for individuals interested in further developing their own basic D-SLR photography knowledge & skills. If you are completely new to D-SLR photography (Canon-Nikon type cameras) you will be required to first attend - Introduction to Photography I - as this course's prerequisite.

This course will begin with a quick review of the fundaments, and then focus on studio lighting, image composition and creating depth within an image.

Introduction to Photography II, is a 7 week course of photographic theory & practical 'hands-on' workshops. The course focuses on in-class shoot & Learn exercises that help simplify the technical theory behind true photography.

The photography textbook used for the course includes additional photography subjects to help continue your personal development even after the course is completed.

At any time during the course, you will be able to e-mail your works for professorial critique or to simply ask a photography related questions outside of the classroom.
